It's okay, it's okay my man. How about we agree on one year, give it a try for one year, then we'll get all the Hossa's and Sundin's of the world next year if it doesn't work. wink.gif - biggrin.gif

1. Don't call me "man." wink.gif
2. This team doesn't deserve to "try" it for one year since they just won the title.
3. Just say no to the Sundin's of the world. tongue.gif

For the sake of the rational 1% of Canucks fans, most of whom seem to prefer hanging out here to their own boards, I hope whatever this "big annnouncement" is isn't too disappointing.

But I don't want to have to rely on the defense again!!! This isn't 2004!! This team was getting away from that crap.

**OTH throws a tantrum**

My thoughts exactly. We are going to have to play a lot of 2-1 games again. mad.gif

I hate to spoil it Nuck fans, but they're bringing back Tiger Williams. They have told him not to ride the stick like a horse. The composite and his hip will explode if he tries it.

Well unfortunitely you and i have a difference of opinion because i don't think there's anything their GM can do to make his team a playoff team. Sundin and Demitra even together i don't think would be enough to put them over the top, and i also highly doubt both would sign. No, i think this team is destined to be the seller dweller of the division next year.

You can't be serious? You don't have to like the Canucks, but you shouldn't be arrogant out of spite. Sedins, Bernier, Sundin, Demitra, Kesler, our D, and Luongo is more than enough to get into the playoffs. It's still not enough to beat Detroit so it doesn't really matter. However, first we have to sign these players for this to be fact. You know Luongo is going to win 30 games regardless, if he can get some support, the Canucks will be looking alright.

The Wild have also lost a significant identity of their team. Two of your leading scorers in Demitra and Rolston are gone, and replaced with 35 year old Brunette, and 36 year old Owen Nolan. The Wild are not in as good a shape as everyone is here is making them out to be, though it will be an interesting year none the less. The division got weaker, and Edmonton got stronger. At this point, anything can happen.

I like how you find it realistic to generalize an entire fan base of a team. You do realize that fans here have been watching the Canucks for almost 40 years. There are fans of every age, most of whom are quite fanatic about the team. If your opinion is generated simply on the clown show that is the cess pool of CDC, than I would have to say your opinion is greatly mistaken. If you would take the time to actually sift through the mindless crap that inhabits CDC, you would agree that there are many intelligent posters, who know a great deal about hockey. I enjoy talking on other boards to get a different view of opinions now and again. I would have to say I quite enjoy both boards, however I like the Canucks board more simply because there are ten times as many members, and always something new to read about. You do not have to wait a week for a new topic to start, or for someone else to finally reply to a post.

Ahh, maybe, I just started reading over the last few days. All I see is people writing off the Canucks with no mention of their team on all the boards. Let's just wait till the end of summe till we start making assumptions.

Sorry for temporarily having a feeling of sympathy for some Canucks fans. Next time I'll lay down in a dark room with a cloth on my forehead until it passes.

I'm not writing them off. And as you can see, most are writing off Minny around here...with good reason.

You can feel how you wan't, it had nothing to do with what I said. If the Canucks fans were being so irrational about the potential of their current team, they wouldn't all have Fire Gillis sigs. Believe me, everyone expected more from this offseason so far, though it is not over, and there still may be some salvaging yet.

I don't think any team in the division is head and shoulders above the rest at this point. As long as the Flamers don't win the division I will be happy.

Ya they are deffinetely looking pretty good right now, though I still think their goaltending is kind of suspect. If Garon and Roloson can have good seasons than they should be in pretty good shape.

Yeah their goaltending is the one weak one point, and could be their vulnerability.... dry.gif

Maybe they will announce that Demitra will join the Canucks' front office instead of on the ice or other folks to the management team. He co-owns a hockey team in Slovakia so you never know.
TOMapleLaughs
Gee, it's not like radio guys in a hockey nuts city go out of their way to make something out of nothing.

Likely, this 'special announcement' will be nothing but a yawn-fest.

Demitra and his 15 goals are coming... Whoopee! Too bad Naslund and his 25 already left. (Not that i'm going to miss Captain Invisble at all, but Demo isn't exactly a beacon of tireless work ethic. He'll NEED Sundin to come anywhere close to his LA form.)
PtoJoneser
Dmitra will lead this team with all his power, and "The Canucks dont pay attention to the Wild" or whatever---

Yup- good luck without Nazzy....albeit invisible, he is still better than Dmitra- what the hell will he do without having to skate around trying to butter up gabby?

Zzzzzzzz

Van who?

Naslund spent the year either floating with the Sedins looking confused, or floating on the joke of a second line. Our top line is set in stone with the Sedins and Bernier; if Pyatt could score 23 goals with the Sedins, Bernier should have no problem scoring 20-25 goals. Demitra is only here to compliment and improve the non existent second line. Him, Raymond, and {Blank} is far better than what we had last year.

Then you look at their goaltending.
rink_raptor
I'm guessing Sakic is coming home...
The Blueline
I think having BOTH is a stretch.

If we did get Sundin and Demitra, we'd have a decent 2nd line, (Raymond/Pyatt - Sundin - Demitra) but it would still be a little soft. Really soft acutally.

That said, almost anything would be better than what we have now.

While you guys were under performing the Wild were building and building a young talented roster.

Maybe they are truely doing a major combo.

-Sedins for Kovalchuk
-Demo signs
-Sundin signs
-Trade a D for another top-6 forward. Can't remember what teams were rumored around this. Ottawa?

Or maybe nothing
Hometown_Hockey
You know I bet its just gonna be the announcement that Demo is signing with them.. That will be the HUGE news haha

Demitra
Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis today announced that the team has signed free agent forward Pavol Demitra. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Throughout his NHL career, Pavol has proven himself to be an offensive contributor where ever he has played," said Gillis. "Pavol is a strong two-way hockey player with excellent quickness and finish. His play making abilities will be an asset on our power-play and make him a great addition to our top six forwards."

Demitra, 33, joins the Canucks from the Minnesota Wild, were in 2007-08 he recorded 54 points (15-39-54) and 24 penalty minutes in 68 games. During his 14 year NHL career with the Wild, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and Ottawa Senators, Demitra has played 750 regular season games, scoring 281 goals while adding 418 assists for 699 points (281-418-699) and 264 penalty minutes. In 77 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has added 50 points (20-30-50) and 28 penalty minutes.

Because it's July and I assume MG isn't done trading. Plus, we need some more size back there and after all 6 of our starter were injured at the same time we may need 12 this year.

the dominos are starting to fall. Sundin is next soon to be followed by Kovalchuk(52G 35A 87PTS) . or vice versa.
